Killing Dog Fleas

You should be able to tell straight away of your pet has fleas as they will be constantly scratching and/or biting at their fur, they may also be quite restless as they will not like the feeling and discomfort of the fleas running in their fur. If you want to check to see if your pet does have flea then the best way to do this is to buy a flea comb from your local pet shop of vets and comb your pet?s fur. If they do have fleas then you should see the fleas running around on the comb, you will need to catch the fleas in a paper towel or bag and get rid of them in the outside bin in order to stop them getting in your carpet.

Another way to check for fleas is to sit your set on a white sheet or large piece of paper and to rub there back for a minute but you will need to be quite vigorous when you do it. By doing this if your pet does have flea then any flea faeces will drop off your pet and onto the paper, you may need to also hold your pets tail. One you have done this you can allow your pet to go. Pick up the paper and remove all the pet hair and then transfer all the bits that are left on the paper onto some damp cotton wool, leave for about one minute.

As flea faeces are made of dry blood, they can sometimes become mixed up with them being dirt or dead skin. The cotton wool will allow the flea faeces to turn a lighter shade of red. If the cotton wool contains red spots then this will confirm that your pet does have fleas and you will need to follow this with treatment to get rid of them.
